Hayaa’ is a part of faith ||| Hayaa’ in what we do

Abu Hurairah (Raji.) narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said:
“Faith or belief consists of more than sixty branches or parts, and Hayaa’ is a part of faith”.

There is no true English definition of the word ‘Hayaa’’ but the closest one can get to it is shame, modesty, and bashfulness. Hayaa’ is an essential characteristic of a Muslim; it must be obtained in order to attain faith as they come together as a pair:

Abdullah ibn Umar (Raji.) narrated that: The Prophet  said: “Indeed Hayaa’ and Iman are companions. When one of them is lifted, the other leaves as well.”

Hayaa’ in what we do

The highest amount of Hayaa’ is when we refrain from committing any sin out of humiliation and guilt in front of Allah. One that has such levels of Iman and Ihsan will, out of worship and fear for Allah (glory and exalted be He), abandon all sins whether committed in public or in private. They simply won’t be able to bring themselves to commit sin, and if they do, they will sincerely regret it. This is the level that we should all try to attain.
One that has Hayaa’ in front of people will avoid sinning in public and boasting of his sins to people. But this Hayaa’ will only provide external righteousness; to obtain internal righteousness, one must also feel regret when sinning, even and especially in private, and try to abandon all Haram out of shame in front of Allah.
In a Hadith narrated by Umar ibn Al Khattab(Raji.):
Prophet Muhammad  said: “Ihsan is to worship Allah as though you are seeing Him, and while you see Him not, yet truly He sees you.”

When one loses Hayaa’, they then lose Iman and they tumble into destruction, losing all sense of shame. Nothing will prevent them from adopting wicked and evil ways due to the absence of any regret or guilt.
Abu Masood Al-Ansari (Raji.) narrated that :
the Prophet ﷺ  said: “Among the words people obtained from the first prophecy are: ‘If you feel no shame, then do as you wish’” – which is exactly what is happening and so this decline in Hayaa’ has resulted in the society becoming an ugly place to live in.
However, if one can obtain Hayaa’, and improve upon it, then one will taste the sweetness of faith and countless blessings. Their actions will be based upon the teachings of Islam and the way they will go about their lives will be an example for all. Insha’Allah, we should all try to change ourselves and increase our Hayaa’ by focusing on the above mentioned aspects as well as the many others that we encounter in our lives.

Anas bin Malik
(Raji.) reported that :
the Prophet  said: “When lewdness is a part of anything, it becomes defective; and when Hayaa’ is a part of anything, it becomes beautiful.”

Hayaa’ is a part of faith ||| Hayaa’ in the places we go

Hayaa’ in the places we go

To have Hayaa’ means to dislike everything that is wrong according to Islam, so even if we may not be committing wrong ourselves, if there is immorality around us, we should feel the repugnance in our hearts when around such places.

We are much more exposed to these environments in the West, compared to most of the Muslim world, with places such as bars, pubs, nightclubs and beaches.

It was narrated that ‘Umar ibn al-Khattaab (Raji.) said: The Prophet  said: “Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him not sit at a table where wine is being drunk.” [ Narrated by Ahmad, 126; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Irwa’ al-Ghaleel, 7/6.]

Hayaa’ is a part of faith ||| Hayaa’ in the friends we choose

Abu Hurairah (Raji.) narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said:

“Faith or belief consists of more than sixty branches or parts, and Hayaa’ is a part of faith”.

There is no true English definition of the word ‘Hayaa’’ but the closest one can get to it is shamemodesty, and bashfulnessHayaa’ is an essential characteristic of a Muslim; it must be obtained in order to attain faith as they come together as a pair:

Abdullah ibn Umar (Raji.) narrated that

the Prophet said:
“Indeed Hayaa’ and Iman are companions. When one of them is lifted, the other leaves as well.”

Hayaa’ in the friends we choose

It makes sense that a person with Hayaa’ and is a God-fearing moral human will choose to be around people of good faith and character as it is with these people they will feel most at peace. Companions that behave in a way that is improper will undoubtedly bring about discomfort to this person and so they will distance themselves from such a group.

Similarly, one that has Hayaa’ will not be able to feel at ease around those who are Non-Mahram for them because it is wrong to be friendly with the opposite gender and so a sign of modesty is having nothing more than a professional and polite relationship with all those who are Non-Mahram to us.

Friends can also shape the way we develop as Muslims as they will be the ones that we spend a lot of our time with, If they have good habits, we will also pick up good habits, but if they have bad habits, we will also pick up those bad habits. And so it is imperative we choose our friends wisely.
The Prophet Muhammad  said: “Man is influenced by the faith of his friends. Therefore, be careful of whom you associate with.”

Therefore one needs to ask him/herself if his/her friends reflect qualities of the Sahabah and thus of Hayaa’: piety, love, mercy, honesty, patience and decency.

Faith is belief in Allah and the Messengers
The angels and the Final Day, and the holy scriptures
And to believe in destiny
That good and bad both come from Him
And the Resurrection; there is no god but Allah.

La ilaha illa Allah (x3), Muhammad Rasulullah

Allah is the creator of heaven and of earth
Nothing may compare with Him, He is the One alone
The prophets, best of humankind
Sent to all nations and all tribes
Last of all Muhammad, mercy to the worlds.

Formed of light and beauty, the angels of the Lord
To praise Allah, to help mankind,
Jibril brings the word.
The scriptures, all by Allah sent,
Torah, Psalms and Gospel then
The source of perfect guidance, the Glorious Quran.

The reckoning, the Final Day, when all will see their works
Remade in soul and body to stand before the Lord
With patience bearing every grief
With thankfulness for all blessings
We are content with destiny, the Will of Allah.

Faith is belief in Allah and the Messengers
The angels and the Final Day, and the holy scriptures
And to believe in destiny
That good and bad both come from Him
And the Resurrection; there is no god but Allah.

Belief in Allah: A Muslim believes in One Allah, Supreme and Eternal, Infinite and Mighty, Merciful and Compassionate, Creator and Provider. Allah has no father nor mother, no sons nor daughters. He has not fathered anyone nor was He fathered. None equal to Him. He is Allah of all mankind, not of a special tribe or race.

Belief in His Angels: A Muslim believes in the angels of Allah. They are purely spiritual and splendid beings created by Allah. They require no food or drink or sleep. They have no physical desires or material needs. Angels spend their time in the service of Allah. Each charged with a certain duty. Angels cannot be seen by the naked eyes. Knowledge and truth are not entirely confined to sensory knowledge or sensory perception alone.

Belief in His Messengers: A Muslim believes in all the Messengers and Prophets of Allah without any discrimination. All messengers were mortals, human beings, endowed with Divine revelations and appointed by Allah to teach mankind. The Holy Quran mentions the names of 25 messengers and prophets and states that there are others. These include Noah, Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad. Their message is the same and it is Islam and it came from One and the Same Source; Allah, and it is to submit to His will and to obey his law, i.e., to become a Muslim.

Belief in His revealed Books: A Muslim believes in all scriptures and revelations of Allah, as they were complete and in their original versions. Revelations were given to guide the people to the right path of Allah. Today the Quran is the only authentic and complete book of Allah. Muslims till today memorize the Quran word by word as a whole or in part. God who revealed the Quran is protecting it from being lost, corrupted, or concealed.

Belief in the Last Day: A Muslim believes in the day of Judgment. This world as we know it will come to an end and the dead will rise to stand for their final and fair trial. Everything we do, say, make, intend and think are accounted for and kept in accurate records. They are brought up on the Day of Resurrection. People with good records will be generously rewarded and warmly welcomed to Allah’s Heaven. People with bad records will be fairly punished and cast into Hell. The real nature of Heaven and Hell are known to Allah only, but they are described by Allah in man’s familiar terms in the Quran. The time of the Day of Judgment is only known to Allah and Allah alone.

Belief in Divine Destiny: A Muslim believes in “Qadaa” and “Qadar”. “Qadaa” and “Qadar” means the Timeless Knowledge of Allah and His power to plan and execute His plans. Allah is not indifferent to this world nor is He neutral to it. Allah is Wise, Just and Loving and whatever He does must have a good motive, although we may fail sometimes to understand it fully. We should have strong faith in Allah and accept whatever He does because our knowledge is limited and our thinking is based on individual consideration, whereas His knowledge is limitless and He plans on a universal basis. Man should think, plan, and make sound choices, but if things do not happen the way he wants, he should not lose faith and surrender himself to mental strains or shattering worries.

Hayaa’ is a part of faith ||| Hayaa’ in how we treat others

Abu Hurairah (Raji.) narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said:

“Faith or belief consists of more than sixty branches or parts, and Hayaa’ is a part of faith”.

There is no true English definition of the word ‘Hayaa’’ but the closest one can get to it is shame, modesty, and bashfulness. Hayaa’ is an essential characteristic of a Muslim; it must be obtained in order to attain faith as they come together as a pair:
Abdullah ibn Umar (Raji.) narrated that the Prophet said:
“Indeed Hayaa’ and Iman are companions. When one of them is lifted, the other leaves as well.”
Hayaa’ in how we treat others
Sometimes we can get angry, become rude, and even be judgmental. Our attitude and way of speaking is a fundamental part of Hayaa’ because the way in which we communicate and treat people is a sign of the kind of person we are and thus the level of Hayaa’ we have. It is not difficult to understand that a good person would treat others with utmost respect at all times, unless in exceptional situations, and be well-mannered and polite. Yet, how many times have we suffered from regret because of how we spoke to someone? It is time we change our manner and emulate the Prophet  who was always a kind and gentle man. It is through this change that the society around may also have the potential to transform.
In Sahih Muslim, it is reported that our beloved Prophet  said:
“Do not think little of any good deed, even if it is just greeting your brother with a cheerful countenance.”
Further than this would be how we treat others. There are two extremes: not caring about anyone at all and caring so much that you ignore yourself. Neither of these is correct as there needs to be a balance. We should treat others well and help them wherever and whenever we can but not at the expense of our own lives and responsibilities.

As one can see, Hayaa’ is not only about ourselves but also about our interactions with those around us. If we cannot treat others well, then we have a grave defect in our Hayaa’ that enables us to adopt malicious characteristics which are good neither for enriching our souls nor for gaining Allah’s pleasure.

Tie her and trust in Allah.

Answer:

Quran verses for Allah is creator of all things

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 13 Surah Raad verse 16:
16 Say: "Who is the Lord and Sustainer of the heavens and the earth?" Say: "It is Allah." Say: "Do ye then take (for worship) protectors other than Him such as have no power either for good or for harm to themselves?" Say: "Are the blind equal with those who see? Or the depths of darkness equal with Light?" Or do they assign to Allah partners who have created (anything) as He has created so that the creation seemed to them similar? Say: "Allah is the Creator of all things: He is the One the Supreme and Irresistible."

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 6 Surah Anaam verse 1:
1 Praise be to Allah Who created the heavens and the earth and made the darkness and the light. Yet those who reject faith hold (others) as equal with their Guardian-Lord.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 6 Surah Anaam verse 102:
102 That is Allah your Lord! There is no god but He! The Creator of all things: then worship ye Him: and He hath power to dispose of all affairs.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 35 Surah Fatir verses 1-3:
1 Praise be to Allah Who created the heavens and the earth Who made the angels messengers with wings two or three or four (pairs): He adds to Creation as He pleases: for Allah has power over all things.
2 What Allah out of His Mercy doth bestow on mankind there is none can withhold: what He doth withhold there is none can grant apart from Him: and He is the Exalted in Power Full of Wisdom.
3 O mankind! Call to mind the grace of Allah unto you! Is there a Creator other than Allah to give you sustenance from heaven or earth? There is no god but He: how then are ye deluded away from the Truth?

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 39 Surah Zumar verse 46:
46 Say: "O Allah! Creator of the heavens and the earth! Knower of all that is hidden and open! It is Thou that wilt judge between Thy Servants in those matters about which they have differed."

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 39 Surah Zumar verse 62:
62 Allah is the Creator of all things and He is the Guardian and Disposer of all affairs.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 38 Surah Saad verses 65-66:
65 Say: "Truly am I a Warner: no god is there but the One Allah Supreme and Irresistible
66 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all in between Exalted in Might Able to enforce His Will, forgiving again and again."

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 59 Surah Hashr verse 24:
24 He is Allah: The Creator, The Evolver, The Bestower of Forms. To Him belong the Most Beautiful Names: Whatever is in the heavens and on earth doth declare His Praises and Glory: and He is The Exalted in Might, The Wise.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allahs Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Muzakara ||| Faith ||| The most wonderful aspect of the human brain

“As for the brain, it is the greatest of all Allah's creatures; it dominates the whole body, controls all movements of it; and drives it to wherever it desires; and by it man is distinguished from the rest of animals. Allah has singled out the brain for man, and through it He has ennobled man over all His creatures.

“Surely, the brain is a world of wonders. No creature can match it in greatness, for it contains stores which never are full and it preserves whatever knowledge is deposited in it. If we want to mention the wonders of the brain, then we have to write a full book about them. Glory belongs to Him Who has originated and created the brain!”

This brilliant description of the brain is not by any philosopher, neither by any neurologist, nor by any religious scholar.

It is by a person who was one of the repositories of divine knowledge, whom God Almighty collectively calls“Rasekhouna fi ilm” in the holy Qur’an.

He was none other than Imam Reza (AS), the 8th Infallible Heir of the Almighty’s Last and Greatest Messenger, Prophet Muhammad (SAWA). He lived in a crucial era of history when the sciences of neighbouring cultures were pouring in unfiltered into the Islamic heartland, confusing scholars and laymen alike.

As the divinely-designated leader of mankind, he felt it his duty to enlighten people’s minds. At every opportunity, he imparted to the people of his age the bezels of God-given wisdom. Those who properly used the power of the intellect benefitted from him, while the retarded brains failed to comprehend his words, and the ones who had allowed their minds to become the devil’s workshop in exchange for craftiness, turned hostile toward him and eventually martyred him.

These days are related to Imam Reza (AS). If yesterday the 23rd of Zi’l-Qa’dah, according to a narration, was his martyrdom anniversary in 203 AH, tomorrow the 25th (Dah al-Ardh – the day on which dry land emerged for the first time from underneath water), it is highly recommended to perform pilgrimage to his shrine in Mashhad.

In between is the 24th of this month today. It is the day on which the 8th Imam was forced to leave his hometown Medina for distant Marv in Khorasan, the capital of Mamoun, the crafty Abbasid caliph whose lust for power had turned his mind into a devil’s workshop.

Mamoun, after killing his eccentric brother Amin in Baghdad, had become the sole caliph of a realm spreading from North Africa to Central Asia. He, however, was apprehensive of his legitimacy to rule. He knew that as long as Imam Reza (AS) was in Hijaz, the Muslim masses would never acknowledge his claim to be the political heir of the Prophet.

Mamoun thus devised a devilish plot to force the Prophet’s righteous heir to come to his court and be declared heir apparent despite the fact that the Imam was twenty years his senior. In this way, he would achieve two goals with one move – assume legitimacy in the eyes of the ordinary simple-minded people, and tarnish the image of the Imamate in the eyes of the followers of the Ahl al-Bayt.

Imam Reza (AS) neither refused the request of the senior Abbasid officials sent to escort him in honour to Khorasan, nor did he instruct his followers to organize resistance against the regime, although he left his hometown with a heavy heart and tearful eyes, especially while taking leave from the Prophet’s shrine and bidding farewell to his only surviving son, Imam Muhammad at-Taqi (AS), who was only five-years old.

As the person possessing divine authority, which no caliph could seize from him, the Imam’s vision was piercing the future through the centuries that would follow, in which he and the teachings of the Ahl al-Bayt will be the real victor, ruling not just the hearts and minds of the people of the lands that lay in his route to Marv, but also beyond, in the farthest parts of the world, long after Mamoun and the Abbasids have vanished into oblivion.

To be brief, the Prophet’s 8th Infallible Heir turned the challenge of the journey and his forced designation as the crafty caliph’s heir apparent that would end in his martyrdom, into a golden opportunity.

At every halting place – in Arabia, in Iraq, and in Iran – he warmly greeted the masses that turned up to see him (whether with reverence for him or out of curiosity) and conveyed to them part of the genuine teachings of his ancestor, the Prophet.

The famous “Hadith Silsalat-az-Zahab” (Narration of the Golden Chain of Authority) which the Imam recited to a huge gathering in Naishapur, need not be repeated here. Nor does time and space allow me to provide even glimpses of his less than 3-year stay in Khorasan that sowed the seeds of the love of the Ahl al-Bayt in the hearts of the people of Iran and adjoining lands.

The fact that his magnificent golden-domed shrine today is the rendezvous of the faithful from all over the world, saluting him with reverence as they enter its sprawling courtyards, is proof of the fact that it is only proper use of the great gift of the brain that guarantees salvation of the human race.
